General Rules:
Rule #1: All Members Should Be Treated Equally
New, old, ranked and unranked; All members should be treated with the same respect. Here are some examples of what is not considered proper treatment of other users on the forum:
Insulting or Flaming Another Member: There is a clear difference in flaming and constructive criticism. Talking down to another member based on who they are or what they have posted is considered flaming. If another member has posted something that you feel is wrong, that you disagree with, or that you feel is not appropriate, there is a better way to get the point across than insulting them or giving feedback in a demeaning fashion.
***NOTE***
This rule does not mean it's okay to talk back rudely to the moderation team regarding moderator actions. While you are allowed to contest a mod decision if you feel it unfair, you must do so civilly. Start by sending me a PM about the matter.
Rule #2: Be a Respectful User
Making Spam Posts: In a Discussion thread, posting is meant to be constructive and help discuss the topic at hand. That said, if you don't have anything to say pertaining to the discussion, then it’s best not to say anything at all. Making posts that pertain to anything besides the topic at hand can be considered spam posts and will either be removed or, most likely, the member making the post will receive an infraction
Trolling: Trolling is when a post is not only just non-helpful to the discussion, but is purposely meant to not have anything to do with the topic and is only there to be a nuisance to other posters in what should be a serious discussion and annoy other users.
Additionally, being a respectful user includes trying to make your posts the best possible quality they can be. If you are a new user who might not have the best forum posting skills, then other members or the forum staff may help you through constructive criticism on how to make posts better. All of this includes respecting other users by tolerating their beliefs and not making excessively rude or offensive comments to a user's beliefs or opinions or otherwise to the user. You don't have to respect their beliefs, but do not bash them considerably with harmful intent or in an unwittingly crude manner. Consistent bad quality in posting is a violation of this rule, and will lead to punishment.
Necromancy: Along with posting with the best quality you can muster, there is also a rule regarding the revival of threads. This is known as thread necromancy. Please do not post in threads more than a month old or several pages back in the index of the forum section unless the thread is still relevant.
Please note the date of the opening post of a thread. If a user asked a question that is four or so months old, chances are they don't still need an answer. Refrain from posting in threads that are outdated.
We tolerate revival of old threads if the topic is still relevant and the post in question has something to contribute to the discussion. It is preferable to renew the discuss by recreating it though.
Rule #3: Keep it Clean
This rule goes hand-in-hand with the above rule of being a respectful user. We have members of all ages, nationalities, and beliefs here, and they deserve a respectful environment. Using profane language should be used in moderation, and not directed at or used against anyone.
Rule #4: Have Appropriate Signatures
To keep the forums running smoothly and cut down on clutter, signatures should meet the following requirements:
Signature Size should be no taller than 300 pixels. This include all pictures and text within a signature. The purpose of this rule is to cut down on the amount of scrolling a user will have to do through forum threads as the signatures will take up a portion of the room on the page.
Rule #5: No Duplicate Accounts
Make only one account. Additional accounts will be caught and banned, or deleted, possibly followed by the banning of the main account depending on the situation. If you are banned and create a second account to get around the ban (and believe me, we WILL catch you), your main account ban will be extended for however long the mods deem appropriate. Repeated offenses will result in a permanent ban and IP ban.
Rule #6: Do Not Advertise via Threads or Posts
It's fine for a user to link his or her website in his or her signature, but it is against the rules to create a thread or make a post in another thread purely to advertise something.
Rule #7: Follow Forum-Specific Rules
Many subforums, such as Visual Arts or Mature Discussion for example, have their own rules that must be followed while posting in that section. Such rules are posted in "stickied" threads that are always listed at the top of the thread list of the section. Failure to follow the rules listed in those threads may also result in a warning.
